One of the authors of the ski facilities of the famous Courchevel, the French architect Pierre Diener, took part in the development of the Gorki Gorod project.
In addition to the media village, the resort was represented at the 2014 Games by the unique Russian Hills ski jump complex, which has now become a national training center and a venue for international competitions.

How to get there

When you go skiing in Gorky Gorod, take care of lightweight and breathable equipment - winters here are snowy, but warm and humid. The skiing season opens in the second half of December and lasts almost until May. You should not be afraid of frosts - the powerful ridges of the Caucasus mountains do not let the cold in from the outside, and also do not release the heat of the sea, creating a unique mountain-sea microclimate in Krasnaya Polyana and its environs. In May, it quickly becomes warm, everything blooms and turns green before our eyes. Ski resort Gorki Gorod
During the 2014 Winter Olympics, the center of the mountain cluster was located here, from here journalists told the whole world about the competitions of biathletes, bobsledders, skiers, freestylers and ski jumpers. Infrastructure features
The design and construction of the resort was carried out according to the British BREEM environmental standard. The authors of the project harmoniously entered the infrastructure into the surrounding landscape, using only safe building materials.
The total area of the resort is 864 hectares. It is located on four levels. At around 540 m is the Lower City, and at an altitude of 960 m - the Upper City. Even higher, at elevations of 1,500 m and 2,200 m, there are tasty tourist attractions: cable cars, freeride ski slopes, viewing platforms and trekking routes. The highest point for descents is 2,375 m. This is the Black Pyramid peak on the Aibga Caucasian ridge.
Lower City (+540 m above sea level)
This is a party center, the main artery of the resort. Comfortable accommodation is offered by the five-star Sochi Marriott Krasnaya Polyana hotel, the four-star Gorki Plaza hotel, and the pretentious Gorki Gorod 540 Apartments.
Trade galleries, shops, an entertainment center, sports complexes, a water park with playgrounds are concentrated in a small area. It is good to make promenades along the wide embankment along the Mzymta River. Everything here is thought out for the convenience of tourists: a wide pedestrian zone, bike and scooter rentals, cozy places to relax. It is from the Lower City at around +540 m that the cable car begins.
Upper City (+960 m above sea level)
If there is vanity and constant movement below, then the “Upper City” is peace and solitude surrounded by harsh Caucasian landscapes. The architectural style here evokes thoughts of the aristocratic resorts of the Swiss Alps.
Rising by cable car, you find yourself surrounded by small two-story townhouses and chalets, restaurants and bars.

Cable car network
Like a cobweb, a network of cable cars covers the resort.
Arriving here, tourists quickly get used to moving up and down on gondola and chair lifts. At three heights, 960 m, 1,460 m and 2,200 m, there are transfer platforms. Lifts also throw skiers to the slopes at 2,050 and 2,300 meters above sea level.
A total of twelve cable cars are divided into four sectors: Central, Eastern, Circus-1, Circus-2 and Circus-3. Things to do in winter
The skiing season opens in December and lasts until mid-May. In the spring, the annual New Star Camp snowboarding camp operates. It is interesting that those who close the winter season in Gorki Gorod go down to the sea and swim and sunbathe. Tourists have a place to turn around in winter. For them, 30 km of trails of various difficulty levels have been thought out.
The tracks are marked: from "green" for beginners, through "blue" for intermediates, to "red" and "black" for super professionals. There are slopes for evening skiing (with artificial lighting and snow). Here, 70 snow cannons are simultaneously activated. With the flickering light of lanterns, you can have fun in a friendly company. For confident freeriders, there are patches of powder and pristine velveteen. And for beginners, it is comfortable to ski on blue and green slopes, ski schools offer training programs for customer requests (even kids can get on skis).

12 cable cars deliver athletes and amateurs to the launch pads. It all starts with a mark of +960 m, then goes +1500 m, the highest is +2340 m above sea level.
